Copenhagen Tango Festival – History
Copenhagen Tango Society (Tangoforeningen) was founded in 1998. The purpose of the Society is to expose our passion for tango. Since 2005 this has – among other events – been done by arranging The Copenhagen Tangofestival.

This year we changed the layout of the room. Thus having a larger floor and a smaller seating area. And it worked out butifully. Bette flow on- and off the dancefloor.
Also, We moved the Cool Down Milonga to Kedelhallen. This gave us a better ventilation in a larger room. And with the food served to keep the energi going, we filled the house to the very end again.

Yhis year we added an extra couple to the workshop program with great success. Never have we had so many people taking part in the workshop. And for the first time we have more foreigners than danes at the festival. We are now digging in to the small details. Improvement such as midnight food, infomaps, daily festival newspaper..

We continue with good spirit. And the atmosphere become more and more intimite. Better lightning, decoration and ventilation. Now we are working with the details.

The concept of this festival was very much a copy of last years success, except that we added a Women’s Workshop.
This year we also spent a lot of extra money and energy on creating a good atmosphere. And it paid off.
2.100 visitors showed that it was worth the effort.

Our fifth festival. This year we tried to create a more marathon-like atmosphere with less live music and more focus on the DJ’s. Therefore we were able to cut the entrance fee with 20-25%. Our impression is that we got it right. This was the biggest tango event ever in Denmark. with a total of more that 1.800 visitors.

Our fourth festival and our second year at Kedelhallen. Plenty of room for the dancers even with more than 400 guest at the same time. Workshops and afternoon milonga’s took place in the city centre within walking distance of cafés, parks, lakes, restaurants etc.

In order to make room for more dancers the festival was moved to Kedelhallen. We were very happy with the facility we had used the previous years but the place was too small. So in order to accommodate everyone we found that this was the best solution.

The festival took place in the studios of The Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Great facilities. Good air-condition. However, we only had room for 250 guests every night. So a lot of disappointed dancers were turned away at the door.

Copenhagen’s first international tango festival. In the beautiful studio of The Danish National Symphony Orchestra. This was really a test run to see if there was a market for such an event in Copenhagen. And luckily it turned out that there is.
